The City of Vienne

TOUR 12 : The city of Vienne

The quaint city of Vienne, situated approximately 26 miles south of Lyon, is deemed a significant archaeological site in the region.

Discover the remnants of a notable ancient Roman Theatre, originally conceived in the 1st Century A.D., and capable of hosting around 11,000 spectators. The Temple, dedicated to Emperor Augustus and his wife Livia, stands as one of the finest examples of an almost completely preserved Roman temple in France.

Vienne played a pivotal role in the history of Christianity during medieval times. Saint-Maurice’s Cathedral serves as a remarkable example of the refinement of French Gothic architectural style. The city exudes a charming and picturesque atmosphere with its medieval narrow streets, cross-timbered houses, and an awe-inspiring panoramic view of the region.
